JULIAN CALIFORNIA:  Join Volcan Mountain Foundation when they host the Wild and Scenic Film Festival On Tour on May 4, 5 and 6 , 2012!
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from the annual festival held the third week of January in Nevada City, CA which is now in its 10th year!  Wild and Scenic focuses on films which speak to the environmental concerns and celebrations of our planet.  “Films featured at Wild and Scenic give people a sense of place,” says Tour Manger, Lori Van Laanen.    “When we realize that the change we need in this world begins with us we can start making a difference. Come watch and see!”

The festival is a natural extension of Volcan Mountain Foundation’s work to inspire people to act on behalf of the environment. 

A sample of the films includes “Connecting the Gems”, by Deia Schlosberg & Gregg Treinish  which follows two National Geographic Adventurers of the Year on a 520-mile trek through one of the Northern Rockies’ premiere wildlife corridors. The two hikers traverse the Yellowstone to Frank Church region, paying particular attention to large carnivores and the challenges they face as they journey between these two ecosystem ‘gems and “Return Flight: Restoring the Bald Eagle to the Channel Islands” by Kevin White which tells the story of how the bald eagle was once an important avian predator in the Channel Islands, a group of islands just off the coast of Southern California. Then in the early 60¹s the bald eagles disappeared due to egg collecting, hunting, and DDT contamination. This short film chronicles how a dedicated team of biologists and their partners has been working tirelessly for decades to bring the bald eagle back to the Channel Islands, leading to some amazing results.

Films will be shown at Julian Town Hall and other venues in downtown Julian.  The festival kick off party will take place Friday, May 4 at the Wynola Marketplace and screenings of films will occur on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. , with live music Haywire and others preceding the showing of films and performing at the evening events. Festival headquarters will be the downstairs of Town Hall and will be open both Saturday and Sunday to purchase tickets.

 Workshops on a variety of environmental educational topics will take place on both days and guided tours of Volcan Mountain will be given on both Saturday, May  5 and Sunday, May 6.  A festival party will take place Saturday evening, May 6 in Town Hall with food, drinks and live music by Grand Canyon Sundown.  An environmental art show will be held at the Julian Library over the weekend.
